After unpacking every box labeled "kitchen" during a recent move, I seem to have come to the realization that my toaster has gone missing. It's not that it was a great toaster or anything, but it toasted things just fine and that's what I look for in a toaster. But now I'm faced with buying a replacement and I've got to reevaluate the whole situation. And there's a bit of time constraint as I've got a fresh box of frosted strawberry Pop-Tarts calling my name. It seemed pretty straightforward. I checked Amazon to check toaster user ratings. To my surprise, almost every toaster they sell has received five stars. It would seem that either toasters are extremely well made or people's expectations are easily met with this class of appliance. You ask yourself, "did my bread get toasted?" and if the answer is yes, I suppose that's five stars right there.
But, one doesn't buy many toasters in a lifetime and I don't want to get stuck with a dud. Still, I'm not very impressed with the fit and finish of any of the toasters I've seen. The only one that really stands out is made by T-Fal.
Amazon sells this T-Fal toaster for $46.94 (a savings of $23.05 off the list price). But Bed Bath and Beyond had the same model for $29.95 on a closeout. I'm wondering why it's on closeout. Is there a new high tech toaster about to be released? Some new bread format I'm not aware of which this current model doesn't support?
I find myself paralyzed on this one. Williams and Sonoma sells a $380 toaster. It seems quite nice. You can probably toast a rack of ribs in it.
So then, on a hunch, I took a trip out to Target and it turns out they're 'toaster central'. I selected this killer toaster. High tech (LEDs and such) and stylish (red) and all around cool. I'm very excited! It's well built and has a very nice finish. It's the perfect size on the countertop, too.
Now I can sleep at night.
